How to set up a successful meal train

Whether you’re setting up a meal train for yourself or a loved one, having success with a meal train (or fondly known as a Meal Drop in the Nourishin app) relies on simply covering your bases. Aside from the obvious step of downloading and registering the Nourishin app (which is currently FREE for all users to download on Apple app store or Google Play), you want to make sure of the following:

Communicate clearly

To get started, we need to communicate who the meal drop recipients are, and if necessary, who it’s being organised by (i.e. sister-in-law). In the Nourishin app there are both options to fill in, as it’s often not the recipient setting up the meal drop / inviting people to participate.

Follow this up with 2-3 short sentences on “The Story” – that’s the behind-the-scenes of why you’re setting up the meal drop, how things are going in the pregnancy / postpartum / wellness journey etc. Basically, whatever you feel comfortable sharing with close friends and family about why you would LOVE some support with a home cooked meal.

Double check your dates

A starting date is all you need when setting up a meal drop (on step 2), but if you’re expecting – we recommend selecting a date around 3-4 weeks before your estimated due date. This gives friends and family time to sign up, ask questions and book a spot before bub arrives.

We’ve also got a handy blackout dates feature – which means you can select date(s) where you won’t require meal support. These can be added at any time, which is especially helpful when working around hospital stays, appointments etc.

Share your dietary needs

Have allergies or dietary requirements to meet? We’ve got you covered. Even if you just simply can’t stand the smell of coriander – you can share that and more on step 3. This is also where you can share preferences to let people know what you’d love to see arrive on your family’s doorstep – whether it’s a certain cuisine or style of cooking (slow cooked meats, soups etc are all amazing for postpartum recovery). Even note your favourite snack – maybe you’ll find yourself surprised with it on a drop off!

Be clear about drop off details

On the last step, you’ll be able to provide a drop off location/address (only be visible to users who have been provided your private link) along with any details and requests.

This is where you can request drop offs inside a cooler bag/eski, or to not ring the door buzzer (which will evidently set off a dog/newborn). Lastly, with our Visitor Status field, you can gently share your family’s boundary around accepting visitors (or not).

Pregnancy and postpartum can be a tender and tumultuous time, but you can update at any time. We want to make it easy for you or a loved one to successfully organise a support with our app’s meal drop / meal train function. Hopefully you found this useful – get in touch with us if you have any questions!
